The Future of Cannabis

The future of cannabis

Cloud Farming grows vertical hydroponic cannabis and hemp in recycled, redesigned shipping containers located in East Boston. Our experience has resulted in an extraordinarily energy-efficient and sustainable farm producing high-quality, pesticide and chemical-free crops year-round.

Our sustainability focus allows us to stay ahead of market changes and lead technology development. Cloud Farming is growing the future of cannabis.

The farmers

Connie and Shawn Cooney are the husband and wife team behind Cloud Farming. After retiring from a career in network virtualization and application acceleration technology, entrepreneur Shawn and his wife, retired public school teacher Connie, were interested in the possibilities of integrating technology into urban farming. They deeply understand urban farming laws and best practices for vertical indoor growing.

Popular indoor farming methods take cues from traditional practices that don’t prioritize efficiency. Cloud Farming’s vertical growing and recycled water system means lower energy usage and no water runoff resulting in reduced capital and operating costs. Focusing on all around energy efficiency and metric monitoring mean that Cloud Farming can successfully navigate, evolve, and thrive in the developing cannabis industry.

Wicked Local

Cloud Farming subsidiary Corner Stalk Farm LLC has been growing produce greens in Boston 24/7/365 regardless of the weather and season. All crops are naturally grown using no pesticides within a controlled environment. Corner Stalk Farm is located in East Boston and is committed to supporting the neighborhood and greater Boston community by creating a responsible, sustainable, and inclusive cannabis business. They deeply understand urban farming laws and best practices for vertical indoor growing.

There are over 30 cannabis shops in Boston but only one farm growing in the city. Cloud Farming is able to offer cannabis and CBD harvest with fast delivery to greater Boston manufacturers. Shorter transportation times means our products are fresh and the carbon footprint is low.

Cloud Farming specializes in Controlled Environmental Agriculture, allowing us to monitor and control temperature, lighting, and water flow through digital systems. We’re working toward integrating sensor technology, automation, and machine learning to optimize our efficiency and help us continually evolve and improve our operations.

Cloud Farming is dedicated to maintaining the highest standards of purity, potency, and transparency. We are developing special plants with dense growth and short stalks, perfect for the indoor and vertical environment. Our farm grows high quality crops without the use of pesticides, fertilizers or other harmful chemicals, and prioritizes quality and consistency.

Working with cannabis industry leaders, Shawn and Cloud Farming are working to improve sustainability in cultivation, manufacturing, and distribution throughout the market.

Shawn is a co-founder of the Sustainable Cannabis Coalition and the Cannabis Sustainability Committee for ASTM. He is also a committee organizer of the Facilities Design Committee for the National Cannabis Industry Association.

Cloud Farming is dedicated to continually learning about improving sustainability in the cannabis industry. Shawn helped develop an energy efficiency study with Dartmouth’s Thayer School of Engineering and Arthur L. Irving Institute for Energy and Society, sponsored by the Sustainable Cannabis Coalition and supported by Rocky Mountain Institute.

Based on the success of this initiative, we are looking forward to extending the work into the 2022-23 school year. Learn more about the research program here.
